Logo Dev: Final 3/13

Logo Dev: 1st Step: Pencil Roughs:

In this step of the four step process of designing a logo for my brand was where I believe is that I established the format I wanted to present myself to the public. My brand is IntroSpecs, where the main product is providing affordable non-fogging glasses in where we produce the frames, lenses, and a variety of styles for the consumer. I wanted to give that friendly, recognizable feel when viewing the logo. I also wanted a simple design in which could be possibly printed on the side of glasses, the glasses case and overall be printed in advertisements that can be easily formatted depending on the printing size. With all of that in mind, I came up with 25 pencil roughs that are based on the idea of the glasses while trying to maintain a unique, 21st century modern feel that a vast majority of popular brand use. I want to make the brand look exclusive and be affordable for all therefore, most of these sketches either fit one or the other. This is also where I experimented the most for all of the different variations that all focused on either the icon or the type. I also kept in mind only using sans serif fonts for most designs to keep the brand name legible and a refreshing clean look.

Logo Dev : 2nd Step, 25 Electronic Variations of the Top 5 Pencil Sketches :

This was probably the most exciting part of the entire process. This is where I discovered certain layouts, how colors drastically change the feel of a logo, how the placement for the icons mattered as it would have to correlate to what I wanted to present with the type and colors. This is also where I experimented with the icons I wanted to use fully. When my peers chose my top five designs, I realized the connecting element of the three was the really non-intentional results of using similar colors and giving the similar feel of it being straightforward with the design that it is portraying the values of what I first wanted to give to the logo. There was a lot of going back and forth with creating new logos that had to be in relation with the initial design yet making it different. I really liked the circular shapes that were giving the illusion that there was some form of lenses. That is what showed how the logo goes together with the name. Speaking of the brand name, the hierarchy of the name also played a part in how aesthetically pleasing the logo was. I eventually narrowed down the selection of my 25 variations after the peer review to only two of them. I took their criticisms to account on to which design had more potential as it can be expected by the "public."

Logo Dev : 3rd Step : Refining my top Two Selects :

Now these are the designs in which after the last peer review, I selected my best two designs. I originally had selected two of them and yet I felt that the circular logo was my best bet. The second logo I felt that it did not go along with what I had in mind. It was too formal and did not achieve the feeling I wanted to portray. I also did not like the simplicity of it as I wanted to add a creative element to it and make sure it stands out when looking at it. I also wanted to add that scientific feel as it was supposed to be anti-fogging glasses in which "a secret formula" would be added onto the lenses and dealing with being involved in optics would consist of proving that the brand is reliable for those procedures and overall, be able to provide quality while staying affordable. That is the full concept that I wanted to pursue so I ventured out to try different brand name placements. I did feel that in these variations is where it felt like refining a sword and polishing it to give it form and then select what type of sword I want to shape. That's what I would say this part of the process is trying to not make the same design twice. For some designs, I really loved the way it looked and wanted to keep that format. So it was difficult to switch it up.

Logo Dev : 4th Step : 10 Variations of one of the Two Selects:

As I worked one my two selects, it eventually came down to one. I chose the sphere icon to keep and only made minor tweaks to the overall design. The concept really resonated with me and I felt that it was the most logical one because I incorporated the eye ball anatomy which is what I wanted to add to be able to show that my brand is based on optics and lenses. The design consists of the sphere icon, a bit of color and changing the hierarchy of the brand name, which I played around with different possible fonts I felt fit with the icon and gave the mood I wanted to establish. There's not much else to speak about the fact that it was realistic enough to be recognized, it was refined to look professional, and the design is simple enough to be able to be printed onto products and advertisements. I also used different sizing to show some variety of possible newer outcomes. I felt that I would love to print the icon onto the products more than the name so when the public views the icon, they would automatically recognize and remember the brand name, similar to when people view the Louis Vuitton logo on their luxury prints and the logo is recognized from afar and the people know that it is affiliated with LV. Many brands use this tactic and I feel that would lead my brand to become more nationwide first if I established a unique logo that can be used in different formats, from still image to being animated on Television or Ads on Social Media platforms.

CONCLUSION , My Reflection :

When working on all of these steps, I feel that I already had that acquired sense of logic that comes with making brand logos. I would not say my designs are perfect but they have definitely improved in the form of effort that I place into my designs. I have always observed and analyzed logo designs from low to high end brands, chain brands , small businesses, online businesses, pop ups, and markets full of vendors to see how they promote themselves to the public. The main component of design will be the design correlating to the brand and having bright, attention grabbing colors that fit the product or service. Some brands will focus on their brand name rather than an icon while others will place the most detailed or simplistic icon and shapes to make it easier to spread the design to every promotional advertisement they establish. I believe since my brand is based on vision, optics, eye glasses, and overall eyewear, I wanted to give my logo a reliable feel that the consumer will have high-quality glasses and be able to enjoy my service. It also comes down to utilizing less ink and printing efforts to demonstrate my logo. My final logo is the sphere one and the one I have attached below. I hope the public loves the logo as much as I do.
